How to Delete and Restore Videos

Soft-delete videos with a 24-hour window to undo before files are permanently removed

When you delete a video, host.video keeps the files for 24 hours before permanently removing them. This gives you a window to undo the deletion if you change your mind.

Delete a video

  1. Open the video you want to delete.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar on the right and click Delete video.
  3. A confirmation dialog will appear noting that you have 24 hours to undo. Click Delete to confirm.

The video is immediately removed from your library listing.

Restore a deleted video

After confirming deletion, a notification appears at the bottom of the screen with an Undo button. Click it to restore the video immediately.

If you do not click Undo before the notification disappears, the video cannot be restored through the UI. After 24 hours, the files are permanently deleted and recovery is no longer possible.

What happens after 24 hours

Once the 24-hour window expires, a background process removes all video files — including the original upload, transcoded files, and HLS segments — and marks the video as permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.
