Migration

Migrate from Wistia to host.video

Move your entire video library in under an hour

Why Teams Are Switching

Per-video pricing adds up fast

Wistia charges by number of videos. The Pro plan caps at 500 videos for $79/month, and the jump to Advanced — which unlocks webinar features many teams do not need — is $319/month. Teams with growing libraries feel the squeeze quickly.

Bandwidth caps on every plan

Even the $319/month Advanced plan caps bandwidth at 1 TB/month. Webinar overages are charged at $1 per minute per attendee. High-traffic pages become a liability.

Marketing-only positioning

Wistia is built for marketing teams. If you need training video, product demos, or internal comms, you are paying for lead-capture and CRM integrations you will never use.

What You'll Gain

No per-video limits

Before: counting videos against a plan cap. After: upload as many videos as you need without worrying about hitting a ceiling.

Lower cost at scale

Before: $319/month for 250 videos and 1 TB bandwidth. After: flat-rate pricing that does not penalize growth.

Auto transcription and search

Before: basic captions. After: automatic transcription with full-text search across your entire video library.

Step-by-Step Migration

Step 1: Export from Wistia

In your Wistia account, go to each project and use the "Download" option to get source files. Wistia does not offer bulk export, so for large libraries, use the Wistia Data API to script a batch download of original files.

Step 2: Create your host.video account

Sign up at host.video with a free 14-day trial. Configure your workspace and set up your custom domain to match your brand.

Step 3: Upload your library

Drag and drop your exported files or use the S3/Dropbox/Google Drive import. Resumable TUS uploads mean large files transfer reliably even on unstable connections.

Step 4: Update your embeds

Swap Wistia embed codes for host.video embeds in your CMS. Wistia uses a JavaScript-based embed — search for "wistia.com" or "wistia_embed" in your site templates and replace with the host.video iframe snippet.

Step 5: Verify and go live

Test playback on key pages, confirm your player branding looks right, and verify transcriptions have generated. Once satisfied, cancel your Wistia subscription.

What About My Embed Links?

Wistia embed codes use their JavaScript player and a Wistia-hosted URL. These will keep working as long as your Wistia account is active. To migrate without downtime, update your embed codes one section at a time while both accounts are live. There is no automatic redirect from Wistia URLs to host.video — you need to replace the embed snippets in your site.

FAQ

How long does it take?

File transfer depends on library size. A typical marketing library of 50-100 videos can be uploaded and re-embedded within an afternoon. The embed swap is the main time investment.

Will I lose my analytics?

Export your Wistia analytics data before canceling. host.video begins tracking from the moment new embeds are live. Historical Wistia data cannot be imported.

Can I keep my custom player settings?

host.video supports custom colors, logos, and player controls. Recreate your brand settings in the host.video dashboard — it takes a few minutes.
